I have been working on an unannounced narrative horror IP since May 2022 as part of the gameplay team. My work has mostly involved developing the inventory and interaction systems, which I have now taken ownership of. I enjoy the collaborative aspect of working on these features as it requires constant communication and iteration between myself and design. It has also involved working with animation in order to add customisation and polish to the look and feel of interacting with an object or something within the level.

As I joined the project while it was already in development, I had to familiarise myself with the codebase quickly. Also, as I hadn't worked in Unreal Engine 5 up to that point, I had to learn the differences between it and Unreal Engine 4.2. This particular project has been great for honing my programming skills and getting the support I need from more senior programmers to identify areas I need to improve in and work towards becoming a more well-rounded programmer. It has also encouraged me to work more independently, which has increased my confidence in my own abilities.

This was my first game project and my first time using Unreal Engine and when I moved to this project I was promoted to Junior Programmer, then later Intermediate Programmer. The team was tasked with creating content for 'Pirate Legends' which would be a different experience every time you played it. My contribution to this was to create a system that would store and randomise rewards to be given out throughout the quest, this could be set up by designers and then the rewards could be accessed within the tale by the designers. I also worked on implementing the 'Zoom Map' quest type where it would generate a zoomed in picture of an island in a random spot as well as a X-marks-the-spot in a radius around the zoomed-in point and it would add it to the players quest book. I was very proud of this work!

I worked on Firesprite's Graduate Incubation project for graduate programmers for the first year of my career. I worked on both the editor and the Playstation Runtime. It was a good introduction to Agile development, using JIRA and Perforce in a professional environment. I took on a leadership role towards the end of my time on this project and interviewed candidates for the next intake of graduate development.
